Street Art
Like Bristol, Brixton is big on street art. The thing which we love about street art is that it’s always changing and being reinvented and illustrates progress in a location.
Some impressive murals can be found on Stockwood Lane, Stockwell Park Road & Pope Road. If like us, you’re a David Bowie fan – you can see a mural of him on Tunstall Road.

Black Culture Archives
A standalone exhibit which was founded off the back of…
“…the New Cross Massacre (1981), the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (1984); underachievement of Black children in British schools, the failings of the Race Relations Act 1976, and the negative impacts of racism against, and a lack of popular recognition of, and representation by people of African and Caribbean descent in the UK”.
In times when as a society we are desperately trying to strive forward and create a better future for all minorities in the UK, the Black Culture Archives is a testament to all the highs, lows, struggles and liberation of the black community in London. We’d highly recommend to all – each and every one of you.

Step to one side Brick Lane, Brixton has a diverse portfolio of vintage clothing and furniture stores as well as bric-a-brac.

Like any emerging suburb in London, the foodie scene in Brixton is only going from strength to strength. And if you’re a street food fan then you should certainly be heading to Brixton Station Road and Brixton Village Market.

Dancefloors
If you’re a bit of a party animal like us, then Brixton has an incredibly vibrant array of nightlife. Not only does it have some funky and playful bars to get a little merry at, but it also has some of London’s top venues (for dancing and entertainment).

Greenspaces
Like every London Borough, Lambeth has its fair share of impressive parks and greenspaces. The largest and closest to Brixton can be found at the south called Brockwell Park. A vast, dog-friendly space that is highly appreciated by the locals.
To the east of the town, you have smaller parks such as Loughborough Park and Ruskin Park which are great for wildlife, sport and picnics. Papa’s Park is great for families with little ones as it has a play area.

Sightseeing
Brixton has a small handful of iconic monuments like most parts of London. Brixton Windmill is probably the most impressive and picture-worthy, but you could also stop by a movie at the old-time Ritzy Cinema.
Aside from this, your best bet is to stick to Brixton Markets as these are indefinitely one of the more enjoyable experiences in the area.

Live Music
In the heart of the town, you’ll find the infamous Brixton O2 Academy. Over the years, it has played host to thousands of live performers of every walk of life. The Junction is also a hive of younger and local artists on a mission not only to entertain but to grow their popularity in the London music scene.
Other places where you’ll find some of London’s top DJ’s, singers and musicians include:
- Windmill Brixton – an informal backstreet pub
- Hootananny – for reggae, ska and afrobeat
- Electric Brixton
- Upstairs at the Ritzy Cinema – an intimate live music venue
- Off The Cuff at OTC Bar
- Phonox
- Effra Social

Brixton Market
Lastly, we know it has been mentioned quite a few times now, but we must stress that Brixton Village Market and Brixton Market are both cool places. They have masses of great shops, street food outlets and in general just a relaxed and genuine buzz.
Both are open 7 days a week 8am to 11.30pm. Check. Them. Out.
